BEER

Room at the table When we think of something special to pour with seasonal food, wine or a festive cocktail might be top of mind. But beer has a place at the holiday table (and beyond!): It can dazzle on occasions you may not have considered.

With just a handful of ingre- dients, brewmasters create a world of aromas and flavours. In winter, the selections from that palette are allowed to express themselves in more robust beers with darker, more comforting tones and slightly more alcohol. Whether sipped at the table to complement a meal, at a small gathering with friends or in quiet contempla- tion during the festive season, beer is versatile enough to pair with any moment—even unex- pected or spontaneous ones.

St. Bernardus Abt 12 with Tourtière A dish as iconically seasonal as Christmas Eve tourtière works best with a Belgian classic. St. Bernardus Abt 12 ( LCBO 17034, 330 mL, $4.30) shares pie and baking spice flavours but lends the dried fruit of its body to make this French-Canadian meat pie even more compelling.
