MATURITY BRINGS JUST A HINT OF… PETROL The intriguing suggestion of petrol can be part of the evolving aromatic profile of mature Rieslings that have spent many years in the bottle. We found a delectable hint of it in a Reif Riesling from 2011. In a fresh young Riesling, however, it’s out of place— like a teenager with grey hair—a sign, some say, of overstressed vines.

Twenty years ago, Herbert Konzelmann resisted the fashion for making dry, tart Riesling. He still does. Medium-dry, easy-drinking. Aromas of apple blossom, peach and lemon.
