TWISTS

Beer for dessert Switch it up at the end of a meal with beers that taste surprisingly dessert-like—serve them up with dessert or as dessert!

Pastry Beers This unofficial beer category is a catch-all term for sweet, over-the-top brews that drink like dessert in a glass. Brewers take the chocolate malt base of a stout or porter, add plenty of sugar, and infuse these pastry beers with dessert flavours. Their ample sweetness makes them a cinch to pair with sac- charine desserts like brownies, butter tarts or date squares. From tart fruit beers fashioned after pies, to lush sweet porters designed to drink like a pecan pie, beer’s latest trend is dessert- inspired. These new styles are opening up fun ways to make beer part of the final course. Whether you go for surprising beer-and-dessert pairings or use dessert as the beer’s own garnish, there’s no better time to delve into beer’s sweeter side.
