LCBO Food & Drink Autumn 2020
A TOAST TO ONTARIO
A rosé by any other season
Summer is rosé’s season, but a lush, full-bodied style can easily transition into autumn. This rich, barely off-dry Pelee Island Lola Cabernet Franc Rosé VQA (VINTAGES 552497, $15.95, September 19 release) is ripe with wildflower aromas and citrus flavours.
For the cellar Closson Chase’s Vineyard Pinot Noir VQA (VINTAGES 145888, $34.95, Sep- tember 19 release) has more than enough ripe cherry, cedar and spiced oak to carry it through another five years when it will be an even silkier treat.
Thanksgiving dinner pairings
Autumn’s big feast is always something special and that elab- orate meal deserves an equally extraordinary wine. A classic Ontario VQA Riesling, like this Beamsville Bench-grown example from Thirty Bench (VINTAGES ESSENTIALS 24133, $22.95) is packed with ripe autumn fruit flavours like pear and ripe apple as well as a hint of spice. The wine’s fresh acidity makes it an excellent match for both those creamy scalloped potatoes and gravy-covered dark meat. With its sweet spice and cranberry aromas, Rosehall Run Defiant Pinot Noir VQA (LCBO 307769, $19.95) seems almost made for pairing with candied yams and cans of Ocean Spray’s finest.
