TREND: EXPRESSIONISM

“The future I’m pre dicting is the one

I want to have…. I’m an optimist. Many great wine producers around the world are returning to organic farming to improve the soil, grow better-quality grapes and make the wine healthier to consume. In the years ahead, I see a world of organically farmed vineyards pro ducing a kaleidoscopic variety of expressions of wine. The wine market has been really disrupted by social media. With younger consumers now, wine is something that they can engage with; they can find wines that they’re interested in to share on social media. That’s going to be the future of wine”

TREND: GLASSLESS CONTAINERS “I predict far more cans and boxes of wines. Packaging pretension aside, I’ve had some really great new wines in both formats recently. A nice, crisp, well-made can of wine feels timely” —Kate Dingwall, award‑winning Toronto-based wine and spirits writer, editor and sommelier

—Steve Matthiasson, farmer-winemaker at Napa‑based Matthiasson Wines in California
