BLUE GRAPE BASICS
CONCORD Known for their rich, classic grape juice flavour with the slightest hint of musk (in the best way). There’s really nothing else like it! Look for them in markets Vitis labrusca , a native species of grape, are an Ontario treasure that you should seek out each fall. These “slip-skin” varieties may look alike but here’s how they differ:

blueish-black skin to reveal a green interior. You’ll also find seeds, too, which means these grapes are best used in strained or cooked recipes like juices and jellies.
CORONATION These hybrid grapes—a mix of Himrod and Patricia types—were developed in the Niagara region and are commonly grown there. They may not have as much distinct character as their Concord cousins but since they are essentially seedless, they can be enjoyed fresh. They’re generally available late August/early September.
