Tart and Refreshing

The juice and zest of citrus fruit are always great flavour enhancers when used in cooking. They add instant brightness and can enliven many dishes. (Using them is also a great way to get double use out of your lemons, limes and oranges.) It only makes sense that the delicious flavour of citrus in the accompanying drinks would make them taste great, too. Their zip and refreshing acidity make them perfect for summertime enjoyment.

JOSE CUERVO GOLDEN GRAPEFRUIT

MARGARITA LCBO 448670, $15.95

Pretty pink in colour and with no bubbles, this is a cocktail with lots of tasty grapefruit flavour and spirited attitude. Drink on its own or with a splash of soda water. Or, for more impact, dress it up in a rocks glass poured over loads of ice and gar- nished with a grapefruit slice and a few raspberries—very sophisticated.

PALM BAY OCEAN PEACH POMELO LCBO 370791, 6 pk, $11.95

This is a really pleasing blend of flavours using peach and pomelo. Pomelo is a large citrus fruit that resembles a grapefruit (the French word for grapefruit is pamplemousse , from which the pomelo most likely derived its name).

HOOPER’S CLOUDY LEMONADE LCBO 373118, 500 mL, $3.80 Lemonade, only better. This cloudy lemonade is super- refreshing with just the right amount of tart to keep the sweetness balanced. It also uses natural lemon flavour, which gives it a homemade taste and aroma. This is one to keep well stocked in the refrig- erator for unexpected guests; it’s sure to please everyone.
