SWEET SOMETHINGS

AS THE WEATHER WARMS UP, WE’RE LESS TEMPTED BY BIG DESSERTS, ENTICED INSTEAD BY A BITE OR TWO OF SWEETNESS AT THE END OF A MEAL.

WHETHER IT’S A CASUAL PIZZA DINNER or an elabo- rate multi-course affair, a meal for me is not complete without a little something sweet at the end. I’m not talk- ing about a plated dessert with fancy garnishes, but a bite-size treat, just a wee bit, sugary and delicious.     Small-bite desserts can take the form of a tart, a cake, a pastry or a pie. Prepare just one of the following recipes or several with varied shapes, tastes, textures and colours—because they’re small, guests can easily sample more than one! Save for “Pie” in a Jar, these des- serts can all be eaten out of hand in two or three satisfy- ing bites. There’s no last-minute cutting or portioning required. Some of your guests might just rejoice in the fact that these sweets aren’t conducive to sharing.
