LCBO Food & Drink Early Summer 2017

Sangria 2.0 Sangria, which originated in Spain and Portugal, has been served throughout Europe for hun- dreds of years. Typically consisting of red wine, sugar and fruit, sangria was officially intro- duced to North American drinkers at the Spanish pavilion of the 1964 World’s Fair in New York, and quickly gained a devoted following. Since then, sangria has become one of our most popular summertime sippers, so we decided to get creative with some new variations on the classic that take us far beyond red wine and citrus.     Whether light and fresh or rich and robust, this remarkably adaptable cocktail can in- clude anything from exotic fruit juices to tart lemonade, and from fresh berries to chopped herbs in all sorts of delicious flavour combinations. And with every style of wine, fresh fruit and even vegetables in the mix, there is definitely a perfect sangria for every palate. Mix up a batch, invite some friends, and enjoy! BY MICHELLE P.E.
