How to create the long table of your Instagram dreams in your own backyard, with expert tips on hosting and décor, plus delectable platter-style recipes.

At Food & Drink we go to great lengths to stay on top of the latest entertaining trends, and there’s no denying the most buzz-worthy and Instagrammable concepts these days are centred on long-table meals. They really do create beautiful opportunities for intimate and interactive experiences. Seated at long tables, guests can easily chat not only with people on either side, but also across the table. And everyone can help themselves to all the easy‑to‑reach food laid out before them.     We’re serving up ideas and inspiration, along with big-batch recipes, for hosting a long table dinner in your own backyard for the Victoria Day long weekend or any summer evening. Recipe developer and farm-to-table advocate Irene Matys has created a fabulous feast that’s perfect for serving and sharing down the centre of a long table. As she explains, “Each big-batch recipe feeds up to a dozen guests, but if making this much food for so many feels overwhelming, get guests involved. Assign each couple to prepare one of the recipes for a potluck dinner.”     On your own or with some help, everyone’s in for a deliciously memorable night!
