LCBO Food & Drink Early Summer 2020

Acidity Like a squeeze of lemon, a white wine’s zingy acidity balances the fats, richness and saltiness in grilled food and keeps your palate fresh. Fruitiness More than just cold and wet, a well-chosen wine makes its own contribution to the taste of the meal with glorious fruit and floral flavours. Intensity We love food from the barbe- cue because of its charred and caramelized bits; a wine needs some serious heft and intensity to compete. What does a white need to stand up to the grill?

Is your white wine BBQ-ready? Some people reach for a big red when slapping a steak or well-sauced ribs on the barbecue—and we can’t blame them. But a big white is great with grilled chicken, pork, seafood or vegetables. It works almost like a salsa, bringing plenty of tangy fruit to the party, while a touch of sweetness in the wine helps to echo the tasty caramelized surface of the food. A crisp, delicate white will be refreshing but you want so much more than that!
