You can spend weeks sorting out details for hosting a special occasion. All those menu deliberations, make-ahead preparations and a full day of getting everything ready can reward you with a truly memorable meal. But who’s to say that a more casual get-together can’t be just as satisfying? The truth is, it can be. Here’s how: Stagger the courses. Everyone enjoys a little extra time to catch up (without a mouthful), top up a glass, and digest. Get the appetizer (like our riff off bread knots) going while everyone is settling in. Big-batch recipes can take little more effort than a standard serves-four recipe. Our stunning self‑serve salad and quick simmered pasta (for which the biggest ask is an epic-size pot and bowl for tossing) in this menu aim to please with easy preparation. Serve up a classic dessert with a twist. Few would balk at a classic chocolate cake (minus the fussy frosting). Keep in mind that a relaxed vibe sets the tone for an unforgettable feast.
