LCBO Food & Drink Early Summer 2022

THE DARKER SIDE OF ROSÉ

Juicy, Fruity and Fun These fruity, light- to medium bodied rosés are lively and nimble, delicious on their own, and great with food, thanks to refreshing red and blue berry fruit and even some tropical notes. Look for Pinot Noir, Grenache and sometimes even Pinot Gris in these blends. PAIRINGS Think Mediterranean food. The structure in these wines loves cheese or creamy sauces and dips, with the wine’s fruit-forward zing bringing out the best in savoury canapés, vegetarian flatbreads and charcuterie, plus mezes and tapas. OCCASIONS These are great aperitivo wines: best served from an ice bucket, with a spread of delicious snacks, perhaps at the cottage or a convivial backyard gathering. One hundred per cent Garnacha results in a vibrant wine, juicy with raspberry and cherry fruit and delicate floral aromas, with a hint of sweet spice. Speck Bros. Family Tree ‘The Merry Widow’ Rosé VQA LCBO 24972, $16.95 A vibrant strawberry pink from some extra time soaking on the grape skins, this is a beautifully balanced expression of citrus, berries and a hint of tropical fruits. Campo Viejo Rosé LCBO 23745, $14.95

13th Street Expression Cabernet Franc Rosé VQA LCBO 20359, $15.95

Asparagus Crostini with Grapefruit & Mint is a texture and flavour match with a juicier rosé, with the citrus and herbs melding with similar tastes in the wine. Find this recipe at lcbo.com/fdearlysummer22

Combining the subtle herbal notes of Cabernet Franc with a splash of Pinot Noir, this rosé boasts generous currant flavours that add a lovely accent to tapas.
