LCBO Food & Drink Early Summer 2024

It’s the thought that counts—so think carefully. What a lovely surprise! There’s a special pleasure in presenting someone with a treat they have never tasted before. Alternatively, of course, you can’t go wrong with a really great Champagne.

Georgian Bay Cocktail Club Bee’s Knees LCBO 36588, 355 mL, $3.95 Georgian Bay gin and Ontario honey lie at the heart of this tangy and sophisticated local version of the classic Prohibition-era Bee’s Knees cocktail. Arriving at a‑dinner party with a round of well-chilled ready-to-drink cocktails makes for a much more original entrance than simply handing the hosts a bottle of wine.

Sibona Liquore alla Camomilla in Grappa Finissima LCBO 285775, 700 mL, $54.95 The revered Piedmontese distillery infuses one of its fine grappas with camomile daisies. Judiciously sweet ened, it becomes a unique liqueur with an aroma of summer meadows and wildflowers and a taste like camomile tea. Serve it chilled or on the rocks after dinner, or pour a shot over vanilla ice cream to make a camomile affogato.

Don David Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon LCBO 36817, $18.95 Then again, a big red is always welcome, especially during barbecue season. Made in Argen tina’s remote but prestigious Cafayate Valley, this powerful Cab spends a year in oak, adding spicy depths to its blackcurrant, cherry and dark chocolate aromas. You can be confident this wine will be well-received.
