THESE ARE THE qUIETER DAYS of Christmas, before the hubbub and the big dinner, the piles of dishes, the clutter of new things. A soft crunch of snow on the drivewayannounces the returnof thosedear to you, gathering again under a single roof. Worry about the luggage after everyone’s bellies are full. Lunch is waiting with dishes easy to serve at different arrival times, some needing only to be warmed, while others

are terrific at room temperature. Begin with nibbles of comforting sweet potato stuffed with smoky, cheesy goodness. Then onto a terrifically tender, easy roast of beef. Finish with a knock-their-socks-off bread pudding, or settle around the fire with decadent hot chocolate topped with chestnut cream. It’s these days, the ones made of time and family and sweet little luxuries, that are the best kind of Christmas days.

Jann Arden, A Jann Arden Christmas , 2015, Universal Acclaimed singer-songwriter and Canadian musical treasure Jann Arden releases her first-ever Christmas album. Hard to believe this album took her so long, but it was definitely worth the wait. Happy and joyful, warm and sentimental, complete with live strings and a great band, it has everything you need for the quintessen- tial holiday soundtrack! SET THE MOOD BY ANN LOUGH
