LCBO Food and Drink Holiday 2016
DRINK ENTERTAINING
In Italian, affogato means “drowned,” as in a scoop of vanilla gelato smothered in hot espresso. In these liqueur-spiked variations, digestif meets dessert for a simple, spectacular holiday meal ending. BY CHARLENE ROOKE • PHOTOGRAPHY BY ROB FIOCCA satisfaction
KAHLÚA COFFEE LIQUEUR LCBO 577957, $28.95 The classic a ogato is a scoop of va- nilla gelato meltingly paired with a shot of hot espresso. In this playful twist, the vanilla flavour comes from flavoured soy, almond or rice milk. (Soy steams up the foamiest.) Mocha ice cream or gelato and co ee liqueur provide the java notes. To keep the visual pun intact, drizzle the dark li- queur over the scoop before drowning it in hot milk.
