ASK THE EXPERTS

“It’s one of those recipes that has a

bunch of handwritten notes, well worn and dog-eared.”

Located in a former (circa 1806) limestone horse stable, Chez Piggy has landmark status and a globetrottin’ menu. “Eclectic international is what we’ve been doing for over 40 years,” says head chef Rich Nicholas. “Or as our rock star founder Zal Yanovsky (of the Lovin’ Spoonful) used to say, ‘Ooga Booga!’” That ooga booga could mean a lip-smacking Vietnamese Châ Giô Salad or The Chez Piggy Club. As for his squares, “My mom makes these throughout the holiday sea- son,” says Nicholas. “It’s one of those recipes that has a bunch of handwrit- ten notes, well worn and dog-eared, and one that I’ll keep for years.” Rich Nicholas, Chez Piggy chezpiggy.com Kingston, ont.

We’re going to celebrate the season just like we always do—with warm wishes, good cheer and delicious food. But since we’re in the midst of a new reality, we decided to switch things up and ask some of our favourite restaurants and chefs from across the province for their best holiday recipes. Things may be different this year, but heartwarming family traditions are forever.
