Fruit Cake Cocktail Fruit cake might not be

everyone’s favourite holiday dessert, but this fruit cake– inspired cocktail is sure to become an instant favourite. Brandy-based, it features the flavours of citrus, cherry and warm spices. We recommend using Luxardo maraschino cherries to garnish. SPICED SIMPLE SYRUP 1/2 cup (125 mL) water 1/2 cup (125 mL) sugar 2 tbsp (30 mL) walnuts or pecans 1/2 tsp (2 mL) orange zest 1/2 tsp (2 mL) ground cinnamon 1/4 tsp (1 mL) ground cloves 1/4 tsp (1 mL) nutmeg COCKTAIL 1 1/2 oz brandy 1/2 oz triple sec 1/2 oz amaretto 1 oz cherry juice 1 oz spiced simple syrup, or to taste Luxardo maraschino cherries to garnish Candied orange slice to garnish 1. For the spiced simple syrup, in a saucepan over medium heat, add all ingredients and stir to combine. Bring to a gentle simmer and continue stirring until sugar is fully dissolved. Remove from heat and let stand 30 minutes. Strain mixture and store in a lidded glass jar until ready to use, and up to 2 weeks. 2. Add brandy, triple sec, amaretto, cherry juice and simple syrup to an ice-filled cocktail shaker. Shake well for 1 minute. Strain into a chilled glass filled with ice. Garnish with a cherry and orange slice.
