A big glass jar and seasoned wood chunks cut from whisky barrel staves turn the timeless rye whisky and red vermouth flavours of a Manhattan into a velvety, spicy new oak-aged classic. You could call it a Five Points or a New Amsterdam, original names for the cocktail’s namesake borough. Walnut or barrel-aged bitters are excellent in this drink.
