Building on an age-old tradition of perfecting the art of the blend, Canadian producers both big and small have been playing with new styles and techniques. This has led to a bounty of surprising and bold new expressions that promise to make this year’s unboxing season more exciting than ever.

DESERT ISLAND BOTTLE Fortunately, we don’t have to choose just one new whisky this holiday season. If we did, however, a good pick would be Lot No. 40 Port Cask Canadian Whisky ( LCBO 34638, $99.30 ), a special release that’s a true indulgence thanks to swirling notes of chocolate, figs, toffee and candied orange, all layered onto that classic spicy rye backbone.
