LCBO Food & Drink Holiday 2024
The Ontario Maker Platter It’s no secret Ontario is home to some prime agriculture. And Ontario makers have stepped up to turn those treasures into spectacular products. Make a homegrown entertaining platter this year with nothing but goodies from our own backyard. Serve Easy Beet‑Pickled Eggs and Cheddar & Pickle Chips alongside a selection of local bread, jellies, cheese, fancy pickles and charcuterie. Top an Ontario-made burrata with a liberal spoonful of chopped oil-preserved giardiniera and flaky salt for a decadent add-on. Find recipes and tips for this platter on p. 201.
LOCAL FINDS The list of shops selling homegrown foods is long, but here’s a primer on who has what. Many Ontario cheeses are available at the big grocers. If in doubt, ask someone from behind the counter. It’s best to visit a dedicated cheese shop for the best selection of the province’s award-winning artisanal cheeses. Independent shops and seasonal craft shows are the best places to find local pickles and preserves. Stand-alone butcher shops often carry an array of products from the same small-scale producers. You’ll likely find very good in-house charcuterie here, too.
Eating local is easy when everything tastes this good.
