BENDING THE RULES

Collaborations When makers pool their resources and work on something inventive together, the results are often delicious and unique. Here are a couple of notables to get excited about.

henderson x rush canadian golden ale

Muskoka Black Raspberry Thunder LCBO 648956, 473 mL, $3.75

LCBO 19609, 473 mL, $3.40 This YYZ band-brewery

Muskoka Brewery teams up with iconic Ontario milk and ice cream producer, Kawartha Dairy, to pro- duce an ingenious brew—a milk- shake IPA, of course. The outcome is a frothy pink-topped beer with hints of raspberries and fragrant vanilla.

collab is no fly by night beer. It’s living in the limelight with a presentation of pine and citrus and gets even closer to the heart with spicy rye bread in the end.

Hybrids We love it when products are innovatively blended together to make entirely new beverages.

Forty Creek Foxheart LCBO 20047, $44.95

Here’s a bit of a departure for this award-winning distillery— Canadian whisky infused with 12-year-old Caribbean rum. It’s a creamy, smooth sipper that will have you savouring not only stewed fruit and poached pear but also banana, molasses and vanilla. Baileys Colada LCBO 19418, $32.45 It only makes sense that two adored creamy classics— Baileys and the tropical Pina Colada cocktail—come to gether so seamlessly. Dancing Sands Sauvignon Blanc Gin LCBO 24095, $54.95 Made from vacuum-distilled wine and blended with gin, this unusual spirit comes in at a slightly lower ABV (37.5%) than the average gin and offers up a myriad of flavours. Find New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc’s expected green apple and passionfruit aromas mixed with coriander and juniper berry botanicals in perfect harmony.

Beer mash-ups The range of beer styles has certainly exploded in the last decade, with a new trend emerging of putting together two different drinks. Arriving this spring, here are four beers mixed with other popular bevvies: rosé, the Daiquiri, lemonade and cherry cola.

Bench brewing Sun Daze Rosé LCBO 25094, 473 mL, $3.65 Just like a rosé, this light ale offers floral and strawberry notes and a pink hue, thanks to hibis- cus blossoms and Ontario strawberries included in the fer- mentation process.

Sawdust City Tropical Storm Strawberry Daiquiri LCBO 24563, 473 mL, $4.50 The latest in Sawdust City Brewing’s Tropical Storm series incorporates two trendy beer styles—hazy India Pale Ale and Sour— and takes flavour inspira- tion from a timeless rum cocktail.
