LCBO Food & Drink Spring 2024
BY ERIC VELLEND
With a new year and a new season underway, there are plenty of tasty trends coming to our plates. Think savoury cakes, foods with visual pop and innovation around reducing waste. And we’re ready for it.
What’s on our radar now?
Social media has put the fun back in food trends. Whether on TikTok or Instagram, a new generation of content creators are pushing the boundaries of home cooking. Sure, there are some questionable endeavours—French onion soup in a sink, anyone?—but the playful, easy and clever recipes are proving to be more than a collective flash in the pan. Take the chopped Italian sub, for example. It’s the same sandwich, prepared in a different way, and it will make you
rethink every sandwich going forward. Simple is key, from the genius two-ingredient feta-fried egg to a viral hack for upside-down puff pastry tarts. There are also some smart approaches to reducing food waste, like the kitchen sink approach to making savoury French cake salé, or using a waffle iron to turn leftover fries into crispy potato cake. To help you embrace this new way of cooking, here are five of our favour ite viral food trends with accompanying recipes.
