WINE  READY FOR ROSÉ

Sweet

Strawberry, raspberry, watermelon, citrus… All those ripe fruit aromas and flavours are front and centre in a sweet rosé. Time to give in and indulge.

The swirl of tart raspberry purée in the rich, sweet panna cotta sets the stage for sweeter ro- sés. Spritzy pink Moscato has become an Austra- lian phenomenon and Banrock Station’s version ( LCBO 170134, $10.95) is an easy-to-love example. With only 6% alcohol by volume, it’s light on its feet with hints of canteloupe and citrus behind the lush floral Muscat grape flavour. There’s a lot to be said for ending a meal with something simple and frivolous. Or is this finally the moment for a Californian blush Zinfandel? Beringer White Zinfandel ( LCBO 239756, $10.95) has the body to match this creamy dish and plenty of tangy fruit to echo the raspberry purée. Robert Mondavi’s Woodbridge White Zinfandel ( LCBO 249656, $9.95) is full of the sense of red berries and shows a pleasing balance of sweetness and acidity. Which- ever of these three you choose, chill it well to maximize refreshment.
