LCBO Food & Drink Summer 2018

SEASONAL GOOD & READY

BROWNIES + THE POP SHOPPE BLACK CHERRY HARD SODA

lemon squares + gin fusion sparkling lemon cocktail Small-batch distillers, such as Dixon’s Distilled Spirits in Guelph, are making it easy to sip craft cocktails by offering them pre-mixed, like this citrus Gin Fusion ( LCBO 554014, 473 mL, $2.95). Freshly squeezed lemon mingles with spicy aniseed and cinnamon bark, with a touch of sugar on a light, carbonated body. Tart and creamy lemon squares complement the beverage’s bright citrus notes without overpowering the gin botanicals. Dress your drink up cocktail-style by adding an ice cube, floating a lemon slice, and topping with a sprig of fresh rosemary.

Angel food cake + Fresita Sparkling Wine

Cherries and chocolate are a classic flavour combination. The tart acidity of the fruit contrasts with the rich com- plexity of cocoa, while the sweetness of both form a har- monious pairing. Black Cherry Hard Soda with vodka ( LCBO 553396, 473 mL, $2.95), made by the retro-cool Canadian Pop Shoppe brand, is syrupy sweet with boisterous candied cherry notes.

A sniff of this bright pink sparkling wine ( LCBO 383901, $14.95) evokes homemade strawberry jam cooking on the stove. Bakery-fresh angel food cake topped with

sliced Ontario strawberries and a dollop of whipped cream pair easily with the bright berry notes of Fresita. Serve the wine with a scoop of crushed ice to tame the sweetness.
