LCBO Food & Drink Summer 2022

THE CLASSIC DAIQUIRI Each to their own. After considerable experimentation, this is the ratio I prefer. Served straight. 1 tsp granulated cane sugar 3/4 oz freshly squeezed lime juice 1 1/2 oz Bacardi Superior White Rum (LCBO 117, $29.95) 1 cup shaved ice

In a cocktail shaker, stir sugar and lime until sugar is dissolved. Add rum and ice. Shake until shaker is frosted—at least 1 minute. Strain into a coupe glass. Makes 1 drink

ORIGINS The Daiquiri

In the beginning, there was just white rum, lime juice and a spoonful of sugar…. It sounds so simple. All you need to do is find the perfect proportions and add melt ing ice! But nothing in the world of cocktails is ever quite what it seems. For once, the origins of the drink are irrefutable. We know who invented the Daiquiri, and where, when and why. We even have the original recipe, handwritten by

The Daiquiri may have had humble beginnings, but today it ranks high on any list of classic cocktails. We follow its fascinating, century-long evolution from elegant simplicity to frozen fruit frivolity.
