A must stop on any creative journey is The Beaverbrook Art Gallery; located downtown, it houses a permanent collection of more than 7,000 historical and contemporary pieces with rotating exhibitions. To experience the pulse of the city, stop by the Garrison Night Market (every Thursday until September 7) and watch downtown Fredericton come alive with local art, culinary, and musical talent. If you time your trip for early fall, check out the Harvest Music Festival from September 12 – 17 for a world-class lineup of global music.

Early birds will love the sunrise paddle tour from Second Nature Outdoors. Grab a paddleboard or a canoe and head out with a guide to explore the islands of Wolastoq (Saint John River)—coffee included! Explore the region’s rich Indigenous culture with a medicine walk guided by Wabanaki Tree Spirit where you’ll learn to identify edible mushrooms, medicinal plants, and wild foods. If life on two wheels is more your speed, rent a mountain bike and explore the 17 one-of-a-kind trails at Minto, a scenic parcel of land about 40 minutes from the city that used to be a coal mine.

Taste your way through the city’s best breweries via the unique Taproom Trail! Pick up a map at one of the 11 participating taprooms, and collect stamps and swag along the way. Hop on an e-scooter from Cruze Rentals and head over to Picaroons Roundhouse to sample their popular Maple Cream Amber Ale (does it get more Canadian?). Later, check out Big Axe Brewery and enjoy a tasting flight on a wrap-around patio. And if you happen to be here the first weekend of August, be sure to catch the Down East Brew Festival on August 5—an outdoor showcase of the region’s best beers.
