Wine Pairings That Pop
Riojana Pinot Grigio Organic LCBO 48856, $12.95 An organic Argentinian wine has exotic tropical-fruit notes of mango, pineapple and more. Trius Pinot Grigio VQA LCBO 561076, $17.95 Bright melon and citrus notes balance with green apple and pear in this fresh and zesty sipper. Flora Sauvignon Blanc Organic LCBO 48726, $14.95 Passion fruit and melon flavours and a whiff of grassy herbs make a juicy match for pineapple. Grand Ballon Sauvignon Blanc Val de Loire LCBO 469593, $14.95 Tart gooseberry and citrus notes in a dry French wine contrast with coconut pineapple creaminess.
Your favourite non-bubbly summer wines also have wonderful ice-pop potential. Chill them thoroughly (and chill the serving glasses, too!) before serving. Consider giving a visual cue to the flavour combinations by garnishing with one or more of the elements that are embodied in the poptail pairing.
Pinot Grigio is the summer white wine that pleases everyone: it can be crisp and minerally, or fruity and floral—and both work for this pairing with sweet, colourful mango ice pops.

Alianca Vinho Verde
LCBO 75663, $11.95 Zesty and citrusy, this crisp white also has some lush tropical fruit notes. Aveleda Vinho Verde LCBO 5322, $13.00 Lip-smacking lime and palate-cleansing minerality define this zesty, slightly fizzy and nearly clear wine.
Single-spear ice pops slip easily into wineglasses or flutes. Put wider paleta-shaped pops in Martini, coupe or stemless glasses.
Slightly fizzy “green wine” from Portugal has notes of lime and green apple (great garnishes!), is lower in alcohol and offers great value.
