“We generate around $40,000 a year in charitable donations, from the local farmers’ market to state and national programs” says Elena Brooks, founder and winemaker at Australia’s Dandelion Vineyards. “All of our donations go to causes that are close to our hearts.” The organizations that Dandelion Vineyards help support include Our Village: a Victoria-based charity who collect baby’s and children’s items and donate them to families who need them. This rehoming also reduces waste by keeping quality essential items out of landfill. While hockey may not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Australia, it means a lot to the folks at Ice Factor Program, who Dandelion Vineyards also support. Since 2005, this innovative initiative has helped at-risk students stay in school by giving them something to be a part of: an ice hockey team! Dandelion Vineyards also gives to Helping Hands in Bhutan, who are working to create a thriving hand rehabilitation program for the people of Bhutan. For over 10 years, Helping Hands in Bhutan has donated medical supplies, led teaching programs, provided patient surgery, and helped establish new hand therapy clinics. So while you won’t see all these good works listed on the label, rest assured that Dandelion’s generous wines grow from a generous spirit.
