MICHELE CASTELLANI CINQUE STELLE AMARONE DELLA VALPOLICELLA CLASSICO 2020 DOCG, Collezione Ca’ del Pipa, Veneto, Italy A little reticent on the nose for the moment, but immediately expansive on the palate, showing dried red berries and flowers, together with toasted Indian spice and a light toffee note. Full-bodied with a compact palate of fruit and spice that envelops the fine-grained tannins, turning more and more savory as the long finish progresses. This is tightly packed and needs a bit of time to unravel and show the full extent of its complexity. It’s tempting to drink now, but better to wait a couple of years. MOUNT RILEY SAUVIGNON BLANC 2024 Marlborough, South Island, New Zealand, sustainable This is fabulously aromatic on the nose, showing Gala apple, feijoa, green rockmelon and lime zest aromas. The palate is equally appealing with vibrant fruit flavours, displaying fine texture and juicy acidity. Upfront and intensely flavoursome, making it highly enjoyable. At its best: now to 2027.
