When siblings Jesús, Ruth and Cristina Fernández founded Dominio de Punctum in 2005, they were continuing a long family tradition of viticulture in Cuenca, Spain. “We come from a family of farmers,” says general manager Jesús Fernández. “The care and respect for the land and the vines has been infused by our parents and grandparents.” Though the vineyards they took ownership of were well preserved, the ecosystem had been burdened with the contin uous and sometimes excessive use of synthetic fertilizers and herbicides routine in conventional farming. “It took us five years of hard work and multiple trials until we put in place the appropriate practices and got the land rebalanced,” says Fernández. “Since then, it has been a continuous learning and evolution process.” In addition to farming organically and biodynamically, Dominio de Punctum installed solar panels that provide 55% of their total energy needs. They recycle all wastewater, collect rainfall for irrigation when needed, and participate in reforestation programs. These initiatives saw them gain Sustainable Wineries for Climate Protection certification from the Spanish Wine Federation. It’s a lot of effort, but for the Fernández siblings, it’s well worth it. “It made total sense to take that further step and commit to the future generations of our family as well as those around the world that enjoy our wines by changing the way we work.” The result are wines that authentically reflect the beautiful land they come from.

Achieving recognition here can launch a producer into the global spotlight literally overnight. In 2025, 248 judges evaluated 18,000 wines from 57 countries. Thirty Bench Triangle Riesling 2021 93 points (Silver Medal) Decanter World Wine Awards 2025 Founded in 1994, Thirty Bench was one of Niagara’s first boutique wineries. The property includes some of Niagara’s oldest Riesling vineyards, with plantings dating back to 1980. These original single-block old-vine Riesling plots in the Steel Post, Triangle and Wood Post vineyards established the winery’s reputation as a top-tier, premium-quality producer. The grapes for the Triangle Riesling 2021 were hand-picked and hand-sorted from the older Riesling plantings of the Triangle Vineyard. Careful selection, cool fermentation, and ageing in stainless steel assured that the unique terroir of this special vineyard was allowed to take centre stage.
Le Clos Jordanne Le Grand Clos Chardonnay 2022 94 points (Silver Medal) Decanter World Wine Awards 2025 Le Clos Jordanne Estate Vineyard features limestone soils with glacial silt and clay, and all the wines produced here reveal a distinct focus and mineral character. After several years of close examination, the vines on the western edge of the vineyard were found to showcase the elevated quality and character that gave rise to Le Grand Clos Chardonnay and Le Grand Clos Pinot Noir. Niagara’s leading terroir guru, Thomas Bachelder, has described these vines as a Niagara grand cru, and there’s no denying that these wines possess a deep sense of place and poise.
Two Sisters Eleventh Post 2020 95 points (Gold Medal) Decanter World Wine Awards 2025 Niagara River is a sub-appellation of the Niagara-on-the-Lake region. Roughly one kilometre wide and running for approximately eight kilometres, the area is heavily influenced by the fast-moving Niagara River, which draws cold air from the vineyards and allows air from Lake Ontario to move in. This constant airflow helps moderate temperatures in the vineyards throughout the growing season, affording grapes a long, slow ripening period and giving rise to intense, concentrated flavours. In a near-perfect vintage like 2020, the resulting balance, complex fruit and elegance are astonishing.
