CHÂTEAU VIEUX CHEVROL LALANDE DE POMEROL 2022 AOC (Famille Champseix)

A blend of 80% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2022 Vieux Chevrol possesses a gourmand, lively bouquet of flowers, dark cherries and cassis. Medium to full-bodied, round and sappy, it’s enrobing with a charming, fresh mid-palate and a lively finish with notes of mulberries and cassis. Perfectly crafted, there is no reason to wait. This wine has a fresh nose of golden-apple slice, white peach, papaya, orange zest and green table grapes. A dry, energetic midpalate opens into lemon citrus and green plum with hints of grape fruit. The wine is bustling with lively acidity that would complement fish, calamari and anything buttered. This Sauvignon Blanc is fresh and lithe, with tangy fresh citrus, tropical fruit and touches of elderflower. Lively and approachable, it will drink through 2027. SÉGLA MARGAUX 2015 AOC, second wine of Ch. Rauzan-Ségla From the Margaux, Bordeaux wine region, Ségla 2015 is the second wine of Château Rauzan-Ségla. Dry and medium-bodied the wine is produced from 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 43% Merlot with the balance in Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc, the wine was matured in French oak barrels (25% new) and is fragrant with liquid blackberry, blueberry, baked cherry flavours savoury and silky on the palate with good acidity for food and a flinty mineral finish. BEAUJOLAIS VAUCHER PÈRE & FILS FLEURIE 2024 AOC Matured 10 months in stainless steel, this lovely example of Fleurie sports a flavour profile that’s all about red fruit and berries, with tart red plums playing a leading role. The fruit-acid balance is right-on, making for an attractively fresh texture that’s firm and fleshy. This is a relentlessly dry wine, just this side of astringent, and as such it’s better enjoyed with food than on its own. Drink now to 2028. (Tasted April 2025.) Score: 93 (Rod Phillips)
