The palate is textured and sub- stantial, even as the juicy berries pop open and flood the mouth. A rare treat to be able to have Cinzia Merli’s wine at this price point. The fruit is on the darker side for the vintage, evoking black cherry, blackberry and dark plum flavors, while earth and wild herb accents add detail. Ripasso-style wines are made by fermenting (“re-passing”) the wine a second time on dried Amarone grapes; a process that enhances every- thing from the wine’s colour and flavour to its ageability.
