Bright on the nose with some fine stones, red cherries, white pepper and rose hips. A hint of agave-like herbs that refreshes the nose. Emiliana have been organic and biodynamic since their inception in 1998. Over the years, they’ve refined their systems to protect the biodiversity of their land, the biological activity of their soils, and the well-being of their employees. The result? Award-winning wines that speak clearly of their origins. SOIL It all starts with healthy soil. Instead of using artificial fertilizers, Emiliana fortify their soils with compost and lots of organic matter, allowing bacteria and fungi to grow abundantly. PLANTS Cover crops sown between vine rows help avoid erosion, attract beneficial insects, and improve soil fertility by naturally providing nitrogen and nutrients. Emiliana also produce organic honey and olive oil at their estates, and every vineyard has an organic vegetable garden. ANIMALS Native flora and fauna coexist with alpacas, horses, cows, birds, chickens, coots and sheep at Emiliana. SKY Emiliana use a biodynamic calendar to align their agricultural work with solar and lunar cycles, maximizing the growth and development of their crops. LAND Emiliana has more than 1,000 hectares of organic and biody namic vineyards in key sites spanning Chile’s winemaking zone. Careful study of the land and vines allows them to enhance each vineyard’s natural advantages, avoiding external inputs and encouraging clean, transparent, authentic wines.

Coastal syrahs in Chile tend to be dominated by spicy and meaty flavors, which is fine, as long as they are not overbearing. Some are, some are not, as is the case with this syrah from the Casa blanca Valley that opens with aromas of black olives, but soon turns to red fruits amid juicy, refreshing acidity.
