A MAY MILESTONE
Raise a glass as we celebrate our 800 th issue!
Did you know this magazine started out back in the mid-1980s as a monthly circular printed on a single sheet of paper? Since then, the LCBO publications and design teams that produce it have evolved the content from a humble list of product names and prices to its current format, promoting each New Release Collection with colourful feature stories focused on regions, grapes, producers, and hosting solutions, plus robust tasting notes and other details for each of the 100+ wines we introduce every two weeks. Our most recent update is the addition
of a convenient digital edition (see opposite page). If you prefer a paper copy, you can pick one up in any of the 240 LCBO stores that carry the New Release Collection. Visit LCBO.com and select “Vintages” in the store search filters to find a location. Here are two wines from this release perfect for toasting our milestone or any spring occasion: a fine sparkler from favourite local crafter Flat Rock Cellars (page 35) and an elegant Champagne from venerable 166-year- old producer Pommery (page 35).
Cheers!

COOL FRENCH REDS
10-14°C JUST CHILL, TOUT LE MONDE
There’s a hot new trend taking shape in France: Sleek, elegant red wines served chilled. Popular in the sunny Mediterranean beach towns of the South of France, the style is quickly building a fanbase across the rest of the country, especially with the arrival of summer. It’s not a brand-new idea (various red wines have been served chilled in one place or another over the years), more a rediscovery of a niche concept that’s now taking its place in the spotlight. With light tannins, lower alcohol and vibrant acidity, the three reds in this collection are ideal for hot days and nights and perfect for pairing with classic summer foods like burgers, cold cuts, salmon or salads. But what really sets them apart is that these are red wines specifically made to be sipped chilled. And as summer heats up in Ontario, the time is right to experience the trend here at home.

It’s always exciting when be- loved local winery Featherstone comes out with a new wine. This fun pink bubbly is named for co-founder Louise Engel’s father, who taught physics. My theory?
