A full-bodied and expressive malbec with 5% cabernet sauvignon. Minerals, black cherries and cool blue fruit. A touch of cocoa powder, but there is nothing plush. Concentrated but austere, with tons of juicy fruit and dusty tannins treading into a long, bright finish. Fermented in concrete and aged 24 months in foudres. Drink or hold [into mid-2030s]. CATENA APPELLATION SAN CARLOS CABERNET FRANC 2023 San Carlos, Valle de Uco, Mendoza, sustainable (Catena Zapata) The 2023 Cabernet Franc Appellation San Carlos, aged for up to 13 months in barrel, opens with soft ash notes, a touch of bell pepper and oak in the background. Intense with a chalky texture and a taut profile, the 2023 finishes with lovely fruit. This well-structured red showcases a calibrated balance between fruit and the vintage’s character istic ripeness. Drinking window: 2025-2035.
