PUGLIA LORUSSO U’CUCCI SUSUMANIELLO 2021 IGP Valle d’Itria
TUSCANY ANTINORI BADIA A PASSIGNANO GRAN SELEZIONE CHIANTI CLASSICO 2022 DOCG ... dark, pliant and super-expressive. Black cherry, plum, leather, spice and mocha fill out the wine’s broad shoulders nicely. As always, the Badia is defined by its volume, but these days, there is much less oak impact in terms of flavor and tannin profile. Two thousand twenty-two was not the easiest vintage to rein back intensity, but this is a terrific effort just the same ... Drinking window: 2025 2037. Score: 94 (Antonio Galloni, vinous.com, July 10, 2025) Medium-bodied & Fruity 384552 (XD) 750 ml $80.95 2 Featured in ’Tis Your Season
Susumaniello, a little-known variety from Puglia in southern Italy, ranks among the world’s rarest wine grapes. Here, it’s expressed as a bold, robust wine with notes of dark fruit and fragrant herbs. Perfect for beef ribs or venison chops served with beetroot risotto. Full-bodied & Smooth 45812 (XD) 750 ml $23.95 2
VARVAGLIONE PAPALE ORO PRIMITIVO DI MANDURIA 2021 DOP
BELLINI CHIANTI CLASSICO 2022 DOCG
A dark, shiny ruby red. Quite an opulent bouquet, sweet tobacco, undergrowth, sealing wax, liquorice and stewed plums. Rich and sweet on the palate too, with a structured acidity and firm tannins, plenty of substance, but also harmonious. Score: 92 (Othmar Kiem & Simon Staffler, falstaff.com, Aug. 8, 2025) Full-bodied & Firm 44600 (XD) 375 ml $18.95 2 Online & Flagship Exclusive
A blend of mainly Sangiovese along with Merlot, this is soft and rich with beautiful dark fruit, berry jam, violets, and touches of chocolate, cedar and spice. Pair with lasagna, grilled red meats or game. [Luca Maroni tasting note not available.] Score: 93 (lucamaroni.com, June 11, 2024) Medium-bodied & Fruity 23038 (XD) 750 ml $18.95 2
SICILY VIGNETI ZABÙ CHIANTARI NERO D’AVOLA 2023 DOC Sicilia
CARPINETO ROSSO DI MONTEPULCIANO 2022 DOC
Nero d’Avola offers up rich, intensely articulated dark fruit. This one is aged for a minimum of six months in a combination of French and American oak. You can expect a floral, balanced wine with great varietal typicity and a dash of spice on the close. A fine choice for game or roast beef with mushrooms. [Luca Maroni tasting note not available.] Score: 93 (lucamaroni.com, Sept. 2, 2024) Full-bodied & Firm 13924 (D) 750 ml $17.95 2
The nose is crisp and invigorating, with aromas of black pepper, sour cherry, strawberry and soil. The palate brings more strawberries and cherries, but that earthy element is fortified by a foundation of firm tannins and ultimately dominates. Score: 91 (Danielle Callegari, Wine Enthusiast , Sept. 1, 2024) Medium-bodied & Fruity 45805 (XD) 750 ml $21.95 2
