Baco Noir A hybrid variety resulting from crossing a European Vitis vinifera with a North American Vitis riparia vine, Baco Noir thrives in Ontario’s cool climate. Some of the oldest Baco vines in Ontario were planted in 1984 by the Speck brothers at Henry of Pelham’s vineyards in the Short Hills Bench region of Niagara.
