Gingerbread Smash It doesn’t get more cozy than gingerbread spices, and this refreshing cocktail uses a homemade gingerbread-infused gin as the base. This infused gin makes for a delicious edible gift, too. Enjoy it in this cocktail or serve on the rocks. GINGERBREAD-INFUSED GIN 1 cup (250 mL) gin 1/3 cup (80 mL) light brown sugar, packed 2 tsp (10 mL) grated ginger 6 cloves COCKTAIL 1 1/2 oz gingerbread-infused gin 1 oz Aperol (LCBO 176834, $28.95) 1/2 oz freshly squeezed lemon juice Splash of ginger beer Star anise pod to garnish Cinnamon stick to garnish Gingerbread cookie to garnish 1. For the gingerbread-infused gin, in a glass jar with a lid, add all ingredients and shake to combine. Let stand for a minimum of 48 hours to allow the flavours to infuse. The longer it sits, the stronger the flavour will be. Strain mixture and place liquid back in jar until ready to use, or up to 3 months. 2. Add gin, Aperol and lemon juice to an ice-filled cocktail shaker. Shake well for 1 minute. Strain into a chilled glass. Top with a splash of ginger beer and garnish with star anise pod, cinnamon stick and gingerbread cookie. 3 cardamom pods 2 cinnamon sticks 1 star anise pod 1/2 tsp (2 mL) freshly grated nutmeg
