AUSTRALIA – WHITE WINE

MONTES PURPLE ANGEL 2021 DO Valle de Colchagua

For me, this is the best Purple Angel since 2016, another cooler, fresher vintage in Chile. Partnering Carmenère and 8% Petit Verdot, with equal parts of the blend from Apalta and Marchigüe, this has plenty of graphite and tarragon on the nose, supple, granular tannins, layers of coffee bean, chocolate and black cherry and a balanced, nuanced finish. Drink date: 2025-2036. Score: 97 (timatkin.com, Chile Special Report 2024 ) Full-bodied & Firm 62364 (XD) 750 ml $105.95 2 Featured in ’Tis Your Season

TORBRECK WOODCUTTER’S SEMILLON 2024 Barossa Valley, South Australia

... from a spectacular year in South Australia ... Everyone I met with so far ... has stars in their eyes about this vintage. Here, the wine leads with fresh-cut straw, lemon pith, green apple skin and white flowers. The wine is sleek on the palate; the phenolics are chalky and kick in through the middle palate and finish, but it remains a tightly focused, streamlined wine. I like the focus and detail here; the wine shows length and precision, but it has very little width and breadth, which are attributes in Barossa Semillon. Excellent. Drink date: 2025- 2039. Score: 94 (Erin Larkin, robertparker.com, April 10, 2025) Full-bodied & Rich 927541 (XD) 750 ml $29.95 2 YALUMBA VIOGNIER 2022 Eden Valley, South Australia, sustainable, vegan Lovely bouquet with striking aromatics of white fleshed stone fruits, sweet citrus and flowers. Classic too on the palate with a silky tock, flavours of white spice and apricot stone, pomaceous fruits and white nectarine. Nicely weight with a satin- cream mouthfeel, medium acidity and lengthy finish. What’s not to like! Best drinking from late 2024 through 2028+. Excellent. Score: 93 (Cameron Douglas, MS, camdouglasms.com, Aug. 9, 2024) Aromatic & Flavourful 954644 (XD) 750 ml $21.95 2 ANGOVE FAMILY CREST GRENACHE/ SHIRAZ/MOURVÈDRE 2022 McLaren Vale, South Australia ... hits the target for a juicier Vale take on a bistro-style Côtes du Rhône. The grenache ripples with red fruits, raspberry, cherry, cranberry. There’s a bit more meat from the shiraz and mourvèdre, along with the latter’s more rugged, savoury tones, and the freshness is admirable. Delicious, fulsome everyday drinking. Drink from: 2024. Drink by: 2028. Special Value. Score: 91 (Marcus Ellis, winecompanion.com.au, Feb. 4, 2024) Full-bodied & Smooth 534750 (XD) 750 ml $22.95 2 AUSTRALIA – RED WINE

UNDURRAGA TERROIR HUNTER CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2023 Alto Maipo, Valle del Maipo

The classic alluvial and calcium carbonate soils of the Maipo Alto are the source of this varietal Cabernet Sauvignon. Made with purchased grapes, it’s a compact, serious, still youthful red with cassis, mint and dried herb flavours, muscular tannins, well-integrated 20% new oak and a chalky lift. Drink date: 2026-2032. Score: 93 (Tim Atkin, MW, timatkin.com, Chile Special Report 2025 ) Full-bodied & Firm 630350 (XD) 750 ml $27.95 2
