LCBO Food & Drink Holiday 2022
SWEET
Demi-sec Stars Somebody very brave once pointed out that wedding cake doesn’t really go with Champagne. Not with bone-dry brut bubbly, that is. Off-dry or demi-sec sparkling wine is a much better bet when dessert is in the offing. The bubbles—and making sure it’s served very cold—tone down the sugar, and all is sweetness and light.
ICE IN YOUR CHAMPERS? › Moët & Chandon has created something unique with its Ice Impérial Champagne (LCBO 279455,
$91.75)—a Champagne specifically designed to be served on the rocks.
Demi-sec and with a blend similar to the company’s renowned Nectar Impérial, it offers rich, exotic flavours of quince jelly and nectarine with hints of raspberry and ginger, while its body is big enough to survive in a glass with ice—for a little while. UKRAINIAN SPARKLE › KrimSekt Semi-Sweet Sparkling White (VINTAGES 206441, $19.95, Dec. 3 release) is a traditional method Ukrainian bubbly, made with Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Riesling and Aligoté grapes sourced from Southern Ukraine. The bottles are still hand-riddled by women workers in the company’s vast underground cellars. Zesty acidity balances the pleasing sweetness in the wine and lifts flavours of ripe apple and peach. Delicious with spicy seafood dishes!
