TRADITION BREAK I NG with

If you’re considering changing things up by passing on turkey this Thanksgiving, this fabulously delectable menu is redolent with autumn flavours that are sure to leave you feeling thankful indeed!

ALTHOUGH I LIKE the idea of the big turkey din- ner with all the traditional trimmings, my family much prefer when I make something else. Over the years we have had duck, chicken and salmon, and we even kept it vegetarian once. This year we are having a family favourite: New York sirloin roast. It is different from a standing rib. There are no bones, making it very easy to carve. If you love that deep, juicy, meaty flavour, this is the roast for you. I serve it with brussels sprouts with dates and garlic butter

popovers, which are really a type of Yorkshire pud- ding, only better.     If you stick with the traditional turkey as the centre of your meal, all the other recipes will match well with it. Avocado mousse with spiced shrimp and the mini mushroom and chestnut tarts are both good options for entertaining, and Spanish cheese- cake is a crowd-pleaser. Chocolate-coated orange peels are the final flourish to cap off this appealing— if not at all traditional—Thanksgiving meal.
