What Wines to Serve… This is a hearty menu with a touch of spice on the Brussels sprouts and sweetness creeping in from pomegranate molasses and apricot preserves. If we’re going with white, it’s going to have to be a robust wine with a fairly full body and a hint of sweetness of its own. The rosemary and lavender fragrance of the herbes de Provence sets me off down the aromatic path towards Viognier, a grape renowned for having the scent of spicy apricots. It’s a toss-up between Yalumba Y Series Viognier ( LCBO 470062, $13.95) with its exotic ginger, honeysuckle and floral notes, and the slightly drier Laroche Viognier de la Chevaliere ( LCBO 377622, $12.95), all apricots and star fruit. And don’t discount a ripe, sturdy South African Chenin Blanc like The Pavillion ( LCBO 281311, $10.95) with its melon, peach and kiwi flavours and prickle of nutmeg.
