LCBO Food & Drink Holiday 2018

“That’s it” now “all done” now “it’s time to hit the hay.” The gifts are wrapped, my hands are tapped, tomorrow’s going to be one heck of a day. My alarm goes off at the crack of dawn, I’m in a festive mood. I run downstairs in my Santa hat and begin to prep the food. The guests arrive and gather ‘round, “Gift swap time!” I say. And with a smile I grab that gift, “This one’s for Aunt May.”

She smiles back with endless joy, she’s just glad she got a present. She begins to tear that shoddy wrapping job as I

‘T was the night before Christmas and all through the house, the gift wrap was spread, there was tape a-scotched to my blouse. All the gifts

think to myself, “That apron is a re-gift sent from heaven.” She opens it, and takes it out, and looks a bit confused. But why? There’s no possible way she could ever know that the gift she got was reused. Unless? Oh no! It couldn’t be. She looks at me and exclaims, “That’s so funny, I could have sworn I got you the same thing at last year’s gift exchange.” But that’s not all, she follows up, “You should go get yours and we could match!” I sip my wine and roll my eyes, “Aunt May, there’s a bit of a catch.” Every year since, we gather ‘round and share our gifts with glee, but there’s always one special gift exchanged between Aunt May and me. We joke, we laugh, we keep that apron’s tag

were wrapped and I was ready for bed, until that one forsaken gift popped like a Christmas cracker into my head. Now “OMG!” now “I totally forgot” now “the gift swap’s one day away!” I need to find a gift for dear old Aunt May! Everything’s closed, maybe I’ll order it online. “10 business days?! It won’t get here in time!” I rush to the closet to see what I can find. Knickknacks and unused gifts are all that’s left behind. Maybe she’ll like this “What’s cookin’, good lookin’?” apron that I got years ago. The tag’s still on, there’s nothing wrong, I doubt she’ll even know. Back to my wrapping station, I fly at Rudolph speed. On paper, on tape, on lace, on bow, on sleep I really need.

on with delight, saying, “Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night.”
