SOUP FOR THE SOUL COCKTAIL P. 247
BULL’S-EYE!
Invented at Detroit’s Caucus Club in 1952, the beef broth and vodka Bullshot cocktail (imagine Bloody Mary–type flavours, without the tomato) was report edly a favourite of celebrities like Joan Crawford. We fea tured a Korean-spiced version of this original broth‑tail in our Autumn 2023 issue.
In mid-2023, New York City’s Double Chicken Please was named North America’s Best Bar, and the food-inspired cocktail trend that was pioneered there was officially cemented into food and drink history. Their soup-based Japanese Cold Noodle cocktail is just one of the foodie inspirations that has found its way from the restaurant’s kitchen out to the bar. We’ve taken stock to create our own so-called broth-tails from chicken, mushroom and Thai-inspired soups, which can be served either as steamy, comforting warm drinks or as cool, icy cocktails. Fortifying them with spirits like gin, rum and tequila makes savoury flavours pop and gives a whole new meaning to “Soup’s on!”
