EASY ENTERTAINING

FRESH FRUIT MIXERS

1

Kolsch &Watermelon Scoop or cube watermelon away from its rind and freeze until firm. Pulse the frozen flesh in a blender, then pour a glug of the purée into an icy kolsch, stir gently and add ice. Gaffel Kolsch LCBO 430769, 500 mL, $2.80 Bright carbonation and lively citrus flavour make kolsch a crisp, summer-ready beer.

BEER When you show up at a BBQ, why bring an ordinary six-pack? In a snap, our easy add-ins will turn that pack into envy-inducing beer cocktails.

2

Raspberry Beer Lemonade Mix pink lemonade (or lemonade with grenadine syrup or pomegranate juice to taste) half-and-half with beer over ice. Garnish with fresh or frozen whole raspberries. Stella Artois LCBO 487264, 500 mL, $3.10 This fruity, barely bitter lager makes a versatile base for many beer cocktails.

TALES 3

Cerveza Shrub Macerate 1 cup (250 mL) chopped fresh strawberries with 1 cup (250 mL) sugar; chill at least overnight. Press and strain, then add up to 1 cup (250 mL) wine vinegar or cider vinegar to taste. Just 1 oz of the resulting shrub, plus equal parts sparkling water and beer, makes 1 drink. Dos Equis Lager LCBO 287540, 473 mL, $2.85 Light-bodied golden Mexican beer pairs perfectly with tart modifiers (think Corona and lime).

You’ve heard of the Shandy (a classic British libation of beer mixed with ginger beer or lemon pop) and the Radler (its German cousin, made with beer and citrus juice). This is the year of the elevated two-ingredient beer cocktail, a summer drink you can easily cooler-tote to a party for an entertaining solution that’s in the can (or the bottle)! Served over plenty of ice, these drinks can be lengthened with sparkling water or citrus soda to yield up to two cocktails from each can or bottle of beer.
