LCBO Food & Drink Summer 2019
Granita originated in Sicily but has since become popular all around the Mediterranean basin on account of its freshness and simplicity of ingredients.
Rosé 101 A few tips on choosing the perfect rosé: the first thing to consider is whether you’d like dry wine or sweet wine, or perhaps something in between.
Fresh Sparkling Rosé VQA
Ê Dry rosés are great with light savoury dishes such as fish, seafood, eggs, tempura and salads. They are also wonderful on their own. Ê Off-dry rosés (meaning somewhat sweet) are great well- chilled and can be enjoyed on their own or with spicy or aromatic foods such as Pad Thai, sushi or chicken satays. Ê Very sweet rosés are best for light desserts, egg dishes such as custards or meringues and dishes with lots of fresh berries. Ê Another factor to consider is whether it’s still or sparkling. Sparkling rosés are incredibly versatile food wines and follow the same food pairing rules as the still versions above. More- over, sparkling wines can elevate any meal. Even mid-week sushi becomes a celebration with a bottle of sparkling rosé.
This off-dry rosé from Niagara ( LCBO 341347, $15.95) is a terrific way to finish your meal. Gamay in the blend of- fers bright, fruity notes of strawberries and cherries while Riesling brings a refreshing citrus note. The wine is sweetish yet balanced and is wonderful along- side this light dessert. For fun, pour a splash over your granita.
