LCBO Food & Drink Travel 2026
With beautiful farmlands, winding country roads, antique markets, boutique shops, top-notch restaurants and wineries, breweries and distilleries at every turn, the route to Niagara Wine Country is more popular than ever these days. This area is a jewel in the Ontario landscape—but with so much to do and see, it can be hard to know where to start. With this in mind, we’ve put together some “choose your own adventure” itineraries— loaded with the greatest hits and lesser-known discoveries—so you can curate a memorable day trip (or weekend getaway). Create the ultimate tailor-made Niagara experience to suit yourself!
Wine Tasting 101 Follow these basic steps to get the most from each wine you sample.
TASTE Coat your palate by covering lightly with the wine, which allows you to take in all of its flavours. BE RESPONSIBLE Swishing and spitting helps with moderation so you can sample responsibly. Also, consider “zebra striping,” where you alternate between beverages with alcohol and without.
LOOK Eye the wine and take in its colour, clarity, viscosity and effervescence.
SWIRL Create a small whirlpool by swirling your glass to oxygenate the wine and bring out aromas.
SMELL Experience more of what the wine has to offer by giving it a good sniff before sipping.
GETTING
AROUND
Reach out to a tour company that accommodates custom tours, like Crush On Niagara Wine Tours. When the weather’s right, check out their glamping package. Or pile friends into an XL taxi, Uber or Lyft so you can stick together and split the cost. (Perhaps you’ll be surprised by the same disco-lit, dance party Uber that scooped up my friends and me last spring.)
