I’ve been lucky to experience a range of wines from all over the world and have completed WSET’s Level 2 Award in Wines. I’m always inspired by the history of the wineries we work with, most of which are family- driven as well.” My buying career led me to the exciting world of wine. I love how wine can be a source of pride and heritage. My Hungarian father would often proudly talk about Tokaji at the dinner table. As we shared a bottle, he reminisced about growing up in Hungary. Since joining the LCBO, I have achieved my WSET Award in Wines Level 2 and Level 3.” As an LCBO buyer, my curatorial style has been informed by my career as a buyer specializing in gourmet food and gifts, as a former pastry chef and restaurant manager, and by my wine education (WSET Level 3). IT’S ALL GREEK TO ME Greece is rich with ancient wine history and unique grape varieties, but that doesn’t mean it has to be complicated. As with all wine regions, the key is to explore and discover what really speaks to you. These four approachable Greek wines are a great place to start.

We begin with Agiorgitiko (ahz- yor-YEE-tee-ko), Greece’s most widely planted red wine grape and signature of Nemea on the Peloponnese Peninsula. Comparable to Merlot, it’s soft and fruity with gentle tannins and notions of berries and plums. It’s often paired with lamb, roast pork, or pasta with tomato sauce.

SKOURAS WILD FERMENT ASSYRTIKO 2024 PGI Peloponnese, vegan Made from 100% Assyrtiko grown in and around Nemea on the Peloponnese Peninsula, this wine was vinified in stainless steel using wild yeast. Finally, there’s Xinomavro (ksee NOH-mah-vro), a red wine grape prevalent in the north of Greece, particularly in uplands and mountain foothills.
