XAVIER ARCANE XIX LE SOLEIL CÔTES DU RHÔNE-VILLAGES 2015 AOP ... full bodied but not overblown, with a sensation ally seductive mouthfeel. Black cherries define the fruit, joined by hints of dark chocolate and enough garrigue to give it a seriously savory character despite the fruit. This is an old-vine blend of 80% Grenache with 10% each Syrah and Mourvèdre, aged 15 months in one-third new oak, the rest in concrete or foudre. Maybe the best Côte du Rhône Villages I’ve ever tasted, it looks to have the stuffing to go another 10 years. Drink date: 2017- 2027. This rosé from the greater southern Rhone region is brimming with red berry aromas. It starts soft and finishes with citrus-zest crispness on the barely medium-bodied palate. CHÂTEAU VAL-JOANIS ROSÉ 2024 AOP Luberon An oldie but a goodie, as they say. This wine first made its appearance on Vintages shelves in the summer of 2000 and has been a regular fixture since 2003. It shows cherry, peach, lemon and strawberry, with characterful Rhône garrigue notes raising the bar. FRANCE – ROSÉ WINE PROVENCE VILLA AIX EN PROVENCE ROSÉ 2024 AOP Coteaux d’Aix-en-Provence (Famille Bréban) This wine opens with earthy herbal aromas followed by wet stones and bubblegum with little pops of white flowers. Tavel is famous for its robust, ageable rosés. This one is Cinsault, Syrah, Grenache and Mourvèdre from vines approaching 35 years of age.
